Sometimes I think I can paint
A glimpse at my stumbling attempt at art.
My father died when I was a kid - and to keep me busy my mother enrolled me in Saturday morning art classes at the Glasgow School of Art in the late 1960's.
My crowning achievement was a painting of an aircraft carrier which got critiqued by the senior tutor Mr. Gardiner - all bow tie and goatee. He waxed lyrical about me conveying the size and mass of the ship. Frankly it was not much more than a 10-year old's grey blob on blue water - but it was an enormous confidence boost for a wee lad to be critiqued against the others who actually could paint. Wise man was that tutor.......
I've dabbled on and off over the years and when acrylics came along it gave me an increased interest. I wasn't patient enough for oils! When I get the chance between my work and weekends and bike rides - I like to dabble.
