New Deck - needs some railings. Or - Planter Boxes to provide a railing and somewhere for a vegetable garden. After the construction crew had finished the deck. "Boxes" are framed in pressure treated posts built around 3/4" pressure treated plywood. Bases are filled to half height with polystyrene packing chips to reduce the amount of dirt and weight the boxes have to carry. The boxes were then lined with heavy green/black tarp to keep the dirt from contacting the wood. The boxes were then shingled to match the house and trimmed on top with 5/4 cedar stock left over from the deck construction and to pick up the visual cue. The step between the boxes was made up from left over material from the deck.
