A colonial pencil post bed for a historic house. Made in Mahogany instead of Cherry as would have been more likely in colonial times. Design copied from examples in Williamsburg. To get stock for the pencil posts - two lengths of stock were epoxy glued together with grain opposed so as to hopefully avoid bending before tapering into octagons. The headboard was made by edge gluing two boards to get the necessary width and then the board was set in floating mortices to allow for movement. Simple finials were turned by hand on a small lathe.
