A Scots National Anthem
As Scotland is part of the United Kingdom the National Anthem is “God Save the Queen”. However as the countries that comprise the UK play each other at Soccer and Rugby – Country specific anthems are used. The Scots sing “Flower of Scotland” which commemorates King Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and through which Scotland gained independence.
When will we see, your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill, and glen
And stood against them
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward, Tae think again
Those hills are bare now
And Autumn leaves, lie thick and still
For land that is lost now
But oh so dearly held
We stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward, Tae think again
Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be that nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward, Tae think again
